About

Emma Geary is an American, multi-media artist from Pasco, WA. She is currently based in Pullman, WA where she is attending Washington State University for a BFA. Through the use of different mediums, mainly digital and traditional painting, Emma looks to uncover different ways to represent the relationship between our physical bodies and the surreal mind, and how we are always changing and evolving. She believes that her best work happens when she completely let's go of expectation and reality and turns the control over to the piece. Emma is constantly experimenting and exploring new mediums and processes in her work as she continues on the personal journey of finding who she is as an artist.

ARtist Statement

The primary reason I began seriously creating art is because I wanted to. I enjoyed the process, and making things that I know no one else but me could made me feel good. Of course, as I kept making art and experimenting with different ideas and processes, I think the reason as to why I make art has changed. I no longer make it because I want to, but because I have to. Art is how I express who I am, it makes me feel fulfilled, and I feel that as an artist, it is my duty to myself to make art now. I am not yet certain of my style, nor do I have many repeating motifs in my work. I experiment often with different emotions, themes, and subjects, and I personally find that more exciting and fulfilling than making art about a certain subject over and over again. However, I am also not committed to making art the way I make it now and for the reason I make it now forever. I think of my reasons for making art as fluid and always in motion. I don’t aim to control where it flows, I only take what is given to me and try to make good art out of it. Though it is possible I will feel differently about it tomorrow.
